Moving in to satisfy the demand for a box mod, VaporFi has finally released the VOX II. While going over the little powerhouse, make no mistake, this is a seriously sturdy and powerful off-the-shelf mod. Built tough, as you can tell with it in your hand, the VOX II isn’t like a lot of low-price box mods.
A lot of people already have tanks that will work, and compatible chargers, so in that case look into just getting the mod itself. It’s a good way to save $30.
Go with a drip atomizer, and don’t get too “clever” with this mod, considering it can run at 50 Watts. Even though VaporFi makes quality components, and so do other manufacturers, stick with what works until enough information has accumulated. Keep up on the tests and reviews. These high wattage box mods are fairly new, and the experimentation in recent months is just that – experimentation. Remember experimentation? Yeah… I thought so.
Even as a mod, it should be understood this is a regulated mod – more of an “advanced personal vaporizer” than a mech mod situation. The VOX II (some call it VOX 50) comes with the standard 510 thread, so any 510 thread parts will work. There are cautions about using higher power settings with any tank other than the Bolt RDA that comes with it, but let’s be real here. Look into the ratings on the RDA tanks you find, and see if anyone is using them on 50 Watts or even more powerful mods. It is wise to follow the manufacturer on this, though, since the Bolt RDA is probably ideal for the overall operation of the mod itself.
The lowest Watt setting is 7, which is a bit weak for most tanks and drip atomizers. Go with a good dual coil and a drip atomizer, and use more than 7 watts. After all, why else did you get the VOX II? Big clouds are guaranteed, seriously, which means more surface area over more, smaller droplets of the evaporating e-liquid, which means more flavor! That’s how this works folks, just so you know.
Watch it with various tobacco — or vanilla — flavors on high wattage settings. They tend to get an off taste. People blame this on nicotine content, but it probably has more to do with the flavoring itself being prone to oxidizing at those temperatures. Nicotine oxidizes rapidly in any high temp situation.
A few complaints I’ve read about, but didn’t have myself, were those about small mechanical adjustments being required. Somehow, I guess, these things may have been coming from the factory with their adjustable parts out of setting in various ways. That’s to be expected. The demand for the VOX 50 was rather intense, and VaporFi scrambled to meet it. A double time assembly line is bound to leave a few little adjustable things off just a bit. Now that VaporFi is caught up on orders, I would suspect these complaints are a thing of the past.
Put it together: Drip tank, dual coil, VOX 50, and whatever tastes good to you. I like clove things myself, and this was almost too much. You might find, if this is your first high wattage situation like this, that your flavors are a bit potent. Some people like that.
As a box mod, of course it’s part of the current growing trend among new vape users and serious vapers alike. However, this nice kit doesn’t mean you have to be into rebuilding your stuff and fiddling with your mod. It works very well as packaged. If you want to get creative, now you can. It’s a good, affordable, quality place to start with a box mod from a trusted company.
Also, if it’s a bit too much, or too weird, remember that VaporFi has a 30-day money back guarantee. They’re pretty aware of those making the transition. It’s not bulky at all, as the video here will show (from VaporFi official). The term “box mod” to someone new to vaping may sound that way. Most should find it an ideal starting point. If anything it’s one of the least ugly of this form factor in the big market.
VaporFi is currently offering the Kit for 99.99 as an introductory price — limited time. The VOX II MOD itself is available for 69.99.
